That... was somewhat rude. Fine, i'll give you a reason.
Sure, i'ven't played very many, but side-scrolling games have a lot less area than 3-D games. They also will often have a locked character, something which I do not like too much. Then there's the fact that most old games are 2-D, even if they're not side-scrolling, A.K.A. they're bland by association.
To put it in perspective, would you rather live in a 2-D world or a 3-D one? In a 2-D world, obstacles are almost impossible to go around, and you will be hurt by touching anything that moves, but 3-D provides so much more thought-provoking, area-affecting, customizing lemony goodness.
And what does Spore have to do with anything? Spore was a great game that got sent to a retirement home prematurely because it was full of great ideas, and the greater the idea, the faster it degrades into garbage. Kinda like inflation, something that is surpassed only by global warming, war and conspiriacy.
